Servant Leadership – Is it Right for You?
Leadership style plays an important role in the performance of an organization and the satisfaction of the followers. In addition, many job descriptions include “leadership ability” as one of the desired skills sought by employers. In this gathering, we will review and compare leadership styles to determine what works best in different situations. We’ll also see what it takes to be called a Servant Leader and why it just might be the leadership style for you.

Our moderator will be John Gentner, Dean of the School of Management and Leadership at Capital University.

The event will be held 7:30 am – 9 am in the Convergent Media Center, Room 121. Remarks will begin at 8 am. This event is free to attend. Coffee and breakfast items will be provided at no cost to attendees.

Free parking is available at the Trinity Lutheran Seminary lot F5.

THE PANELISTS:
Elisa Nicolas
Amber Knicole
Becky Long
Lesley Ann Fogle

Elisa Nicolas is a Canadian-born multi-instrumental musician, singer, songwriter, producer and recording engineer. Elisa was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio in a family of pop-music loving classical musicians.  She was influenced by her parents classical and pop record collection, everything from the Beatles to Herb Alpert. She attended music school at the University of Cincinnati and studied Philosophy at Ohio State eventually settling in Columbus, Ohio. Whether playing guitar or piano, producing or engineering, Elisa is a musician first. Elisa has been in several bands including Mary Adam 12, Group LA, People X-ing and her own solo projects. She has written commercial music as well as the score and lyrics for a musical. She’s toured nationally and supported several national acts, including Over the Rhine, Maia Sharp, Arrested Development and Joe Bonamassa.

Elisa has been recording music for well over 20 years. She is an in-demand collaborator with several genres of musicians and artists including Megan Palmer, Jason Quicksall, The Ginger Lees, Metalbaby and MA12. She is currently working on two artist records slated for release in 2017 and her own new studio album slated for release in 2018.

Amber Knicole began singing in her church’s children’s choir at the age of 4 and ever since then, music has been a vital part of her life. Amber Knicole is most recognizable as the lead singer of Columbus born and bred Neo-Funk band, MojoFlo. Internationally, Amber continues to thrill audiences as a member of the Café Wha? Band based out of New York City. In addition to performing, Amber Knicole has competed in The American Traditions Competition which resulted in her invitation to be a featured soloist with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s Picnic with the Pops 4th of July 2010. Amber has lent her voice to The Columbus Foundation’s Spirit of Columbus Celebration and Dayton CityFolk's 'Playing for Change.'

Becky Long is Vice President of Sales and Brand Marketing for PromoWest Productions. Having been with the company for 16 years, she handles business development, sponsorship, partnerships, advertising, experiential marketing and brand strategy for PromoWest concert venues, events and Bunbury Music Festival. She also owns her own consulting company providing the same services to companies and is a board member of the Columbus Music Commission. With a strong passion for the entertainment business, Becky manages to juggle her career with her most important job – being a mom. Originally from Westerville, Becky now resides in New Albany with her husband and four children. She is an advocate for Pediatric Epilepsy after her youngest son was diagnosed and then cured of the disorder after experiencing a miracle. She is now on a mission to share Jacob’s story called Jacob’s Journey: Believe in Miracles in hopes to help other children suffering from this condition.

Lesley Ann Fogle studied vocal performance at University of Toledo and Ohio State in the early 1990’s. Wanting to fully understand sound, she went on to learn the technical side of audio engineering. After a decade in Chicago working as an audio engineer mainly on jingles and post-production commercials, Lesley Ann found herself frequently on the other side of the microphone. Upon landing mneumonic work for Nintendo/Leo Burnett, Lesley joined SAG and went freelance on the audio side while voicing national commercials, industrials, and documentary work. Upon moving back to Columbus Ohio, Lesley took on audiobook narration as a means of long-format vocal practice and soon found it opened a world of active participation in characterization, accent work, cold reading, endurance, and technique.

When not narrating, field mixing at a film shoot, or sound-designing in post, Lesley Ann writes music with her husband under the name the After-Death Plan. The duo began recording together in Chicago in the 90s as part of her musical conglomerate Mal Vu, a rotating cast of musicians weaving tales of darkness and whimsy. After-Death Plan’s current endeavor highlights music and lyrics inspired by classic literature.

Lesley Ann Fogle is a member of The Audio Publisher’s Association, an Audible Approved Producer, and a Professional Member of The World-Voices Organization.

Walking Tour of Weinland Park with Michael Wilkos, Director of Community Research at The Columbus Foundation
Limited Capacity seats available

After decades of disinvestment and population loss, Weinland Park, a neighborhood of 4,500 residents immediately southeast of The Ohio State University, is now experiencing the benefits of a major public-private partnership that began over 20 years ago. Weinland Park has long held a distinction of being a mixed-income, mixed-race neighborhood, but starting in the 1980’s the neighborhood began to show significant signs of stress due to gang violence and a concentration of poorly managed low-income housing.

Since 2009, over 550 units of housing have been newly built, renovated, or repaired with the majority of these units offering a subsidy to the renters or buyers. Currently, over 1,000 housing units are under construction (or proposed) for this small Columbus neighborhood of only 0.36 square miles. These efforts have used an asset-based community development model that has includes efforts aimed at improving housing, health, education, employment, youth development, resident engagement and safety. Weinland Park is soon becoming a national model of neighborhood revitalization without significant displacement of existing residents. Can this success for existing residents be maintained as the neighborhood continues to improve?

Join Michael Wilkos, The Columbus Foundation’s Director of Community Research and Weinland Park resident for 8 years, on a walking tour of the neighborhood to learn more.
